Live music is BACK at Gosforth Civic Theatre! To cure the post-lockdown blues we are putting on gigs in our community garden.
Emma Fisk (violin) and David Harris (guitar) are one half of North East Gypsy Jazz favourites, Hot Club du Nord and together they perform as a duo inspired by Reinhardt/ Grappelli’s unique musical partnership.
Emma, has been playing hot Club/ Gypsy Jazz style fiddle since she was a teenager and was lucky enough to meet Stephane Grappelli after a show at Sunderland Empire. As well as performing with Hot Club du Nord, she has appeared as guest violinist at jazz festivals throughout the UK, including performances with the Remi Harris Trio, Keith Nichols, Tony Oreshko Trio, Spats Langham, Martin Wheatley and The Jazz Repertory Company. In 2018 she was nominated in the British Jazz Awards, one of only a handful of UK violinists to receive this recognition.
Dave is a long time devotee of the Django Reinhardt and studied with jazz great, Barney Kessel, as well as jamming with Bert Weedon when he was touring with a young Bireli Lagrene. Dave also played with guitarist Teddy Judge who met and jammed with Django when he was in London in the 1940s.
Expect Reinhardt/ Grappelli originals, jazz classics and Gypsy Jazz staples in fresh and infectiously joyful interpretations!
You can come down and see them in a safe, socially distanced environment by reserving a table for up to 6 people from no more than two different households. Our staff will serve you drinks to and from your table so can concentrate on enjoying this free gig and get used the 'the new normal'.
