James Heather is one of the new school ‘post classical’ artists flourishing in the wake of figureheads like, Max Richter, Mica Levi and J hann J hannsson releasing on Ahead of Our Time, the other label by Ninja Tune founders Coldcut.
His latest release is a solo piano rework of The Cinematic Orchestra and Roots Manuva on Ninja Tune for their ‘To Believe’ remix project alongside Kelly Moran, Photay, Actress and Mary Lattimore. The track currently has over 700k plays on Spotify alone and was chosen by Nils Frahm in his Piano Day playlist.
He also hosts a monthly show on Soho Radio and playlist of same name called “Moving Sounds”, guests have included Hania Rani, Coldcut, Penelope Trappes and the label Sonic PIeces. His album Reworks came out in Dec 2018 and is a collection of remixes and new versions of tracks from debut album Stories From Far Away On Piano and Modulations: EP 1. Contributors include Mary Lattimore, DJ Seinfeld, Sarah Davachi and mor,e plus two new versions composed by James featuring a String Quartet. The Mary Lattimore Rework was included in Hype Machine’s curated mailout and playlist The Stack.
