GCT REOPENING WEEKEND
Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August 2023.
Free entry and no ticket required.
The countdown is on to our official reopening on August Bank Holiday weekend.
On Friday 25 August, stand-up poet, BBC radio regular and Northern treasure Kate Fox will reopen Gosforth Civic Theatre with her show Bigger on the Inside.
Bigger on the Inside is about Kate’s unexpected adult diagnosis of autism and is a perfect start to our next chapter.
Blending stand-up and spoken word with personal memoir and her warm performance style, Kate looks at neurodiversity through the theme of Doctor Who. Of course! Tickets are on sale now, get yours here.
On Saturday 26 August, come and visit our new and improved Café, Bar & Kitchen. Treat yourself to snacks and drinks from our brand-new menu served from our revamped kitchen and deli. Pray for good weather, as Curious Arts will take over our garden and courtyard with their hugely popular outdoor performance piece Wildflower.
As our new Community Studio will not quite be ready;join in some arts and crafts with Mini Crafters, for creative souls of all ages in our newly decorated and bright foyer space.
Also on Saturday, Voices of Virtue Gospel Choir lead a programme of performance and live music, including performances from Young Musician Project artist Izzy and our very own Liberdade. With the upgrades we’ve made to our sound and lighting, this will be an unforgettable experience. There will also be a special exhibit from artist Rob Reza with a new piece depicting Martin Luther King, an exclusive for GCT before it goes to New York City to take residence there a week later.
It doesn’t stop there! On Sunday 27 August you’re invited to drop in to a full day of free activities for the whole family. We promise to keep everyone entertained with:
- Our infamous GCT Gaming Social, video games galore for fans young and not-so-young!
- The Bubbleologist Jesse Ward, always a winner with the kids.
- DJ Paula Penman will spin some tunes at our Summer Disco to get everyone on the dancefloor and busting some moves.
After eight months away, we're looking forward to welcoming you back and showing you around our newly refurbished auditorium, Café, Bar & Kitchen, and brand-new Community Studio.

Wildflower
Wildflower is an outdoor pop-up performance produced by Newcastle based LGBTQIA+ Arts Producers, Curious Arts. Performed by two dance artists, Wildflower takes audiences on an emotional journey of companionship, self expression and acceptance, exploring what it truly means to be a Wildflower. Being your authentic self, wherever your place in the world and sometimes under the harshest conditions. Riding their large flower adorned trike through public spaces, from parks to city centres, the Wildflowers' colourful presence and varied soundtrack draws audiences to share their experience. An experience described by one audience member as 'a very welcome burst of colour and wonder on an otherwise gloomy day'

Voices of Virtue Gospel Choir
Friends turned sisters Matti and Chichi built Voices of Virtue Gospel Choir from a duo into one of the North East's leading gospel choirs with a 14 strong choir and band. A passion for gospel music and joy for singing together has driven them to create this vibrant and joyful group.

Izzy
Izzy is a singer-songwriter from Gateshead.
Stepping into the world of performing after a successful debut at Sunderland ‘Afterdark’ in 2022, Izzy blends gorgeous melodies with timeless songwriting. Her own brand of Dodie meets Joni-Mitchell folk-pop is not to be missed.

Family Party
with DJ Paula Penman
We're bringing a taste of our always-popular New Year's Eve Family Party to the summer as DJ Paula Penman spins tunes that we can all dance too. Our bar will be open and you can grab food from our Bar & Kitchen.
