Gosforth Civic Theatre (GCT) is an independent theatre, café, and events venue in Gosforth, three miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. It is an amazing social enterprise founded by a group of people with learning disabilities to bring the local community together and generate understanding, creativity, and change.
We’re passionate about having a diverse cultural programme of performance, music and events that is in line with our strategy, attuned to our audiences and financially responsible.
Our Calendar: We programme in 4-month cycles; January-April, May-August, and September-December. Each one has a What’s On Guide produced. We look to book most cultural events on Thursdays and Fridays but can be flexible.
Flexible Booking: Our programming budget is limited for buying shows and paying artists' fees regularly, so we welcome hires where possible. However, we are open to co-promotions, part fees vs splits, and buying in the right show. Contact us for more info!
Accessibility: We are a welcoming space where we believe in breaking societal barriers. We embed people with learning disabilities in our staff team across events and promote a welcoming culture. It’s crucial that whomever we work with respects that and embraces it.

The Theatre
Capacities:

6m x 5m stage deck in 2mx1m decks. Leg height 600mm (with 300mm option).

The Studio
We have two studio spaces available for hire or to use as part of a larger booking. Both spaces are over 60m2, have capacities of 60 and include projection facilities.
Our Cafe has access to our garden and has a bar and deli hatch which can serve directly in to the room.
Our brand-new Community Studio (pictured) is more private to the rest of the building and is perfect for small gigs, workshops, green room, meetings and breakout spaces.
Dressing
Rooms
We have two dressing rooms back stage. They are served by a toilet and shower facility in between each room. One dressing room can take up to 5 people and the other up to 9.
Both dressing rooms are lockable and have access to free wifi.

We ask that if you’re performing at or bringing a show or artist to GCT that you send us your relevant tech specs at the earliest convenience to make sure the performance is possible in our spaces with the in-house equipment.
Any tech equipment required above the below specification is at the Hirer or Artist’s cost unless specifically discussed in writing at point of booking.
