Jam-packed weekend event returns for 2025, bigger and better than ever

  • Over 20 kegs and 10 casks of beer from local and national breweries will accompany a range of street food pop-ups

  • Live music lineup will include 90s nostalgia, soothing soul, and Americana and blues

A local performing arts venue is set to host one of its most popular events again this summer with a jam-packed line up of beer, music and entertainment.

Gosforth Civic Theatre is bringing its annual Beer Festival back from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 August, welcoming visitors to a weekend of family-friendly summer fun.

As well as an impressive 20 taps of keg and 10 taps of cask beer from local and national breweries on offer, along with a dedicated spirit and wine bar and plenty of no and low alcohol options, the festival will offer a fun-filled weekend of live music, street food pop-ups and crafts sessions for the whole family to enjoy.

On Friday, the festival will open from 4pm, starting the weekend with delicious pints and pizza courtesy of Fire & Dough Pizza and Gosforth Civic Theatre’s own kitchen. A burst of 90s nostalgia from local legends Jamagotchi will entertain visitors into the night, playing the era’s biggest dance and indie hits from 8pm to 10pm.

Saturday will feature a range of creative crafts for little ones from Mini Crafters, tasty taco offerings from Goodtimes Tacos, and more street food vendors to be announced. From 4.30pm, there will be live music from Hels Pattison, Georgia May and Soul'd Out's 7-piece band playing the best neo-soul, funk, RnB and hip-hop.

On Sunday, alongside great food and crafts from the venue, visitors will be able to enjoy a lineup of live music from local up-and-coming artists from 1pm until 5pm, including Americana and blues musician Tommy Arch, rhythm and blues outfit The King Bees, and two singer songwriters from We Make Culture's Young Musician's Project.

The festival, which returned from a two-year hiatus last year, supports local independent businesses and artists while also bringing together the community to celebrate the amazing talent and tastes on their doorstep.

The event, which has been free in previous years, will have a £5 entry fee for adults, which gives visitors access for the whole weekend. The fee will support the work of Gosforth Civic Theatre and Liberdade Community Development Trust, which has worked for over 20 years  giving people with learning disabilities choice - offering them power and opportunities that they otherwise might not have had.

Rob Huggins, CEO of Gosforth Civic Theatre explained: “Gosforth Civic Theatre is like no other theatre in the country. This space exists because a group of people with learning disabilities had the vision to create it to invite the community in and break down those societal barriers.

“GCT Beer Festival has always embodied that ethos; the local area coming together as one in a venue they can hopefully be proud of to enjoy great food and drink, take in amazing live music and, in turn, continue to create social change.”
