GCT Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update: Tue 17 March 2020

Updated: Jul 11, 2020

We are currently in unprecedented times and a situation that’s moving lightening fast. At present we are still following government policy following the Prime Minister’s address on Monday 16 March and we urge you to do the same, most importantly:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds

  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work

  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available

  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze

  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

  • avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus

  • only travel on public transport if you need to

  • work from home, if you can

  • avoid social activities

  • avoid events with large groups of people

  • use phone, online services, or apps to contact your GP surgery or other NHS services

As government policy dictates people not to use pubs, clubs or theatres our current programme must be suspended and postponed in line with government policy with immediate effect and we'll be working alongside artists to manage this, and will be communicating with ticket holders in due course.

Even so, we believe it is important in these times to still offer a community facility and we will continue to do so until government instructs otherwise, or we feel we can no longer offer a safe service for our customers.

With this in mind we are keeping our café open and have put the following in place to make sure GCT Cafe remains as safe an environment as possible:

  • reduced opening hours of 09.30 – 16.00 to allow for more staff cleaning capacity;

  • hand sanitising station at our main entrance with instruction for use on entrance and exit of the building;

  • reduced amount of available seating to ensure safe social distancing between customers;

  • increased cleaning of high-risk touch points throughout the day;

  • guidance for good personal hygiene displayed throughout the building.

  • and a reminder: if you have an underlying health issues or are displaying any of the symptoms as outlined by official health advice by NHS England please stay at home and look after yourself;

As ever we offer the following and would encourage where possible customers to take advantage:

  • Contactless card payment up to £30

  • Our full menu is available to take away and can be ordered and paid for over the phone (unfortunately we can’t deliver)

  • Biodegradable coffee cups (at present we won’t be able to use your reusable cups)

In addition to this we are have two large NHS offices supporting the infrastructure of our health service at this crucial time, in solidarity we are offering a 50% discount on all food and drink to NHS staff.

It is important to us we look out for each other and that our community still supports artists, charities and local independent businesses as there's no doubt this situation will have a devastating impact. Even if you can’t make a show, see your favourite band or visit your local shop or café, please think about giving a donation, buying or giving a ticket as a donation, ordering some merchandise, or grabbing a takeaway coffee or lunch if you can afford to. Although we understand this will be a hard and trying time for many.

We are still here for you, albeit at an enforced reduced capacity, and hope to be here for you when this is all over.

Keep on keeping on.
