Gosforth Civic Theatre has rounded off 2025 by securing an impressive win at one of the region’s most important celebrations of culture.
We’re delighted to say that we took home the prestigious Best Museum or Cultural Venue award at the North East Culture Awards 2025 last month.
Organised by news publisher Reach plc - the group behind The Chronicle, The Journal and more - the North East Culture Awards celebrate the cultural infrastructure and diversity of the whole region.

This year’s ceremony, which took place at the Stockton Globe Theatre in November, welcomed cultural organisations and leaders for an evening of celebration and recognition of some of the incredible achievements in the North East culture sector.
GCT was chosen for the award for Best Museum or Cultural Venue out of several organisations across the region, including ARC Stockton, Land of Iron in Redcar & Cleveland and The Tute in Northumberland.
The venue was commended on its commitment to its mission of supporting people with learning disabilities to enjoy and participate in culture, as well as providing a varied programme of theatre, music, dance, cinema, and more to be enjoyed by the whole community.
CEO Rob Huggins said: “It is huge for us as an organisation and it feels like acceptance as GCT as a quality arts venue in the North East. But it's also testament to our founding company members who's dream it was to create a space of everyone to enjoy, and to the hard work and dedication of everyone who has worked with and supported us in our first 10 years."
We’re incredibly grateful that as we go into our tenth year as a venue, that we’ve been recognised for the work we do. A huge thank you to our staff, volunteers and supporters!
