A North East theatre is the first stop for nationally acclaimed food writer Felicity Cloake on a special mini-tour with a cycling twist.
The Guardian food writer is celebrating the launch of her new book, Peach Street to Lobster Lane, with Felicity Cloake's Adventures in Food - a series of live in-conversation shows across the North of England beginning at Newcastle’s own Gosforth Civic Theatre on Tuesday 14th April.
In the spirit of her adventures, Felicity, writer of the Guardian’s ‘How to Make the Perfect’ food column since 2009 and described as ‘the nation’s taster-in-chief’ by the Daily Mail, will cycle between all venues on the mini-tour, from Gosforth Civic Theatre to York Crescent (15th April) and Settle Victoria Hall (16th April).
Felicity will be joined on her journey by fellow adventurer and author Emily Chappell - whose own trips have included braving the Alaskan winter with whiskey-infused porridge and emergency Lidl hauls during a non-stop bike race across Europe - as well as her beloved pet dog Wilf.
At the live shows, Felicity and Emily will share the stage to discuss Felicity’s new book Peach Street to Lobster Lane, compare notes on their travel experiences, discoveries and misadventures, and invite the audience to share their own recommendations on the best Northern foods they can try along the way.
Felicity’s new book - which follows on from acclaimed titles One More Croissant for the Road, an exploration of French landscapes and pastries, and Red Sauce, Brown Sauce: A British Breakfast Odyssey - takes readers on her cycling journey across the USA during the 2023 election year to find local delicacies.
Commenting on her Northern mini-tour, Felicity said: “I’m always thrilled to have an excuse to get out of grey dreary London for somewhere more beautiful – and if it’s somewhere with stotties, even better.
“I only skirted the coast on my British breakfast-themed travels in 2021, so I’m really looking forward to exploring further on my bike with the dog (another big stottie fan), and hopefully getting some good local food and route recommendations from the audience while I’m there: especially if they involve pease pudding which I completely failed to find on my last visit!”
